Youth Serve at Galveston-Houston Clergy Appreciation Dinner

By David Lewis

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

This year the councils of Galveston-Houston hosted the 32nd annual Clergy Appreciation Night on January 22nd to thank all our clergy for the sacrifices they make for each Catholic. The event fills to capacity the Stafford Centre’s banquet hall with clergy, brother Knights, and guests. Each year a call goes out to the young adults in Columbia Squires and Junior Catholic Daughters of America to volunteer the meals to all the guests. There is always some fear that this year the call will not be answered but happily the young adults show-up eager to be in service to our clergy. This was also an opportunity for the Squires and the JCDA to work together at a Catholic activity.

This year a combined 63 Squires and JCDA under the guidance of 15 adult Squire and JCDA Councilors served 1300 salads, prime rib dinners, deserts and drinks. As in previous years these young adults came together, many of whom were there for the first time, without practice to serve. Working together they efficiently and promptly delivered the food and drinks to all diners.

All the young adults worked well together and new friends were made. After the last desert was served they enjoyed pizza before returning home.

The Galveston-Houston Chapter is very appreciative of all their hard work. Thank you all the Squires, their councilors, the Junior Catholic Daughters, and their leaders.
