Vol. 4, 2016-2017

The St. Helen San Gabriel Council 6453 in Georgetown, TX has been especially busy over the last 2 months in providing charitable works within the Parish and Community:

In December, 2106 the Council was involved in a number of charitable activities within the Parish and Religious Community:

  • Our Council managed 2 components of the Parish’s annual Giving Tree Program for the Christmas season, working on the component supporting needy children through the Mittens, Gloves and Hats program. There were a total of 63 needy families that received gloves and hats for their children.
  • A 2nd component was the donation of Gift Cards for our beloved Diocesan Retired Priests who live in the Jean Paul II Retirement home adjacent to our Parish. The Knights managed the Parish giving program, where over $1,800.00 in Gift Cards were donated to the Retired Priests by our Parishioners
  • Additionally, our Council, as we do each year, erected the outdoor Manger scene in front of the Church, as well as installed our white crosses representing babies lost by abortion, and in support of the Annual Pro-Life Rally. These crosses were vividly placed throughout our Parish campus.

In January, 2017, as our Council does many times during the year, we assisted the Dominican Sisters of Mary, by managing large tracts of the land that will be their Texas Priory home. Many of our Brother Knights were involved in trimming trees, removing large quantities of rock and other debris, which will allow better access for machines throughout the summer months this year

The annual Clergy Appreciation Dinner was hosted by our Council on February 2, 2017. Many hundreds of Religious attended the Dinner, with Keynote Speaker Bishop Joe Vasquez and Bishop Daniel Garcia in attendance. We received many a thank you from those who attended for the accommodations, table arrangements and the great dinner our Council 6453 provided.

February 2017 will be another busy month with:

  • The start of our 2016/2017 Scholarship Program for student graduating from high school in our Parish
  • The Council’s quarterly Retired Priests BBQ, where many of our Council Brothers spend time with the Retired Priests over grilled hamburgers/hot dogs, reminiscing over the Parish lives these wonderful Priests have experienced
  • Our Council 6453 will provide our Youth Ministry Religious Education Program a meal for over 160 youngsters, allowing the leaders and students to meet at a dinner table and share thoughts on interests and concerns. A wonderful opportunity for sharing which we encourage.
