Council 9368 Purchases Ultrasound Machine for a Mobile Bus Unit

By Frank Alvarez Grand Knight, Council 9368

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

On March 30, the Chisholm Trail Council #9368 received a favorable review from the Knights of Columbus Supreme office for Agape Pregnancy Counseling Center (PCC) to qualify for the KC Ultrasound. With this approval, Council 9368, proceeded to gather funds to donate to a worthy Pregnancy Resource Center, Agape of Round Rock for their Mobile bus Unit which will be taken throughout the Central Texas area serving women in need, including the Women who attend St. William Catholic Church.

On April 5, the Grand Knight of Council 9368, Frank Alvarez, presented a check to the Agape Pregnancy Resource Center for $7,500. The check from the Knights of Columbus Supreme office totaling approximately $6,900 will be delivered 3-6 weeks from the date of the dedication.

District Deputy, Jorge Casanova

Through the Ultrasound Initiative, since 2009, state and local Knights of Columbus councils have teamed up with the Supreme Council to fund over 752 ultrasound machines, costing over $36 million, for placement in pro-life pregnancy care centers (PCCs) in all 50 states, as well as in Canada, Guatemala and Jamaica.

Ultrasound exams, which are medically indicated throughout pregnancy for a variety of diagnostic reasons, use ultrasound waves to scan a women’s abdomen, creating a picture, or “sonogram,” of the baby in her womb. Without K of C support, most Pregnancy Resource Centers would be unable to purchase an ultrasound machine.

The Agape Director, Jo Markham sent word out indicating that they had “protesters from the Austin and WILCO NOW groups had been standing in front of the Agape Center with signs stating nothing but lies.” The director “went out and invited them in to see what we really do and they angrily refused,” promising to come back and cause more disruptions – regardless of the truth.

The Knights of Columbus were well represented at the mobile bus dedication coordinated by Agape as seen in the picture below.

Cutting the ribbon to the mobile bus unit was Round Rock Mayor, Alan McGraw. McGraw indicated in some brief remarks that he was adopted out as an infant. Also in attendance blessing the mobile unit and the medical providers was Fr. Dean along with many other pastors in the Round Rock.
