Every Council Active

By Ron Alonzo, State Programs Director

Recruitment and Service Program efforts are like exercise and good nutrition for a council – they're necessary to stay healthy.A council that is stable and strong regularly recruits new members and conducts programs for the Church and community. A council that is facing difficulties often goes months or even years without adding any new Knights to its roster or sponsoring service projects.

Programs and Membership go Hand in Hand to keep councils working on recruiting new members.I have often mentioned to the new members after a Frist Degree, that there is a program that will fit their gifts and talents.

During the last fraternal year many councils failed to recruit even one new member. What went wrong for those councils that didn’t even add one member? The inability to recruit even one new member could be the first sign that a council is in trouble. Don’t let your council reach that stage. Councils that are actively implementing programs will take the steps to ensure people know about Knights of Columbus presence and activity in your parish. Every event is an opportunity for recruitment and engagement. Focus on growing your councils FAITH, COMMUNITY, FAMILY and LIFE programming – within your parish

PLAN – PREPARE – EXECUTE

PLAN – Put in to place programs for the fraternal year.

PREPARE – Train your council members in the new Faith in Action Model.

EXECUTE - Lead by example with monthly events and activities.

Ordering Supplies and Resources

Earlier this fraternal year I took the steps to order just about every resource for the programs under the 4 categories FAITH, COMMUNITY, FAMILY AND LIFE.

Most of all these resources and supplies are free and not cost to your councils. Allow enough time for these supplies to arrive.

Currently the Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest and Silver Rose should be winding down at the end of November. The Coats for Kids program should be implemented as well as be prepared to implement the Keep Christ in Christmas program and Poster Contest. It is recommended that you implement The Novena for Life program in January. Other supplies to order now are March for Life and Free Throw Contest.

Faith in Action Model new forms rolled out.

Changes have been made to the fraternal programs report forms. Forms can be accessed through Officers Online and by visiting kofc.org/forms

Electronic submissions via “Online Submission” are encouraged. Please review this information.

The following link will direct you to the new forms.
