Recent activities of Fr. E. Philip O’Hern Council 10776, St. Austin Catholic Church in Austin, Texas

Take them out to the ballgame! On Tuesday evening, June 18, 2019, The Council treated some special baseball fans, a Paulist priest and a Paulist seminarian, to the Knights Night at Dell Diamond to watch the Round Rock Express take on the Tacoma Rainiers. We had reserved seats in the shade along the third base line which made for comfortable viewing of the action. Shown standing during the 7th inning stretch are (L – R) GK Paul Lewis, PGK Dennis Moraw, Paulist Fr. Bruce Nieli, CSP and Paulist seminarian Philip Catalanotto, CSP. Both Paulists are also Knights. Philip has returned to the seminary in Washington D.C. to start his second year of study. Even though the home team lost, a good time was had by all.

Council 10776’s new officers for the 2019-20 fraternal year were installed on Wednesday June 19, 2019. After posing for this group photo, the officers, other members and families enjoyed a BBQ dinner at a local restaurant. L-R: District Warden Rudy Gonzalez, DD Pat Ortiz, Dennis Moraw, David King, Darrell Pargmann, Charles Vernor, Mark Worman, Matt Frangenberg, Frank Garcia, Paul Lewis, Mike Debner, Deacon Billy Atkins and Larry Schroeder.

In July, the St. Vincent de Paul society at St. Austin’s sponsored a “Stuff the Truck” event. The objective was to fill a delivery truck with usable household items and clothing. Donated items were given to the Vincentian Family Center’s thrift store for resale. Members of Council 10776 assisting with loading donations into the truck were George Pratte, Bill Collier, Joe Van Gompel and son James, Eric Nichols and Paul Lewis. St. Austin parishioners with SVdP and K of C help did indeed “stuff the truck” as shown in the photos. Taking a brief pause on the tailgate are (L-R) Joe Van Gompel and Paul Lewis. With barely enough room to stand on the stuffed truck at the end of a long hot weekend are Bill Collier, SVdP leader Huddie Murray and Paul Lewis.
