Death

: Richard Milos with plaque from the Council honoring him for 16 years of service to Council and St. Austin, January 2019.

Council 10776 of St. Austin Catholic Church in Austin Texas lost one of our most active members when Richard J. Milos passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Richard was born and grew up in Albany, NY and came to Austin in 1985. Richard had been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 2002. He held several officer positions over the years including Deputy Grand Knight, Treasurer, and Membership Director. A talented wood worker, he made crosses, portraits and trees using a scroll saw and sold them at the parish Holiday Fair. He was our star recruiter. He never met a man he didn’t try to recruit for the Knights. Many in the Council owe their membership to Richard’s irresistible recruiting skills. His deep involvement in many church and school activities resulted in the Bishop giving him the Lumen Gentium Award in June 2010, a justly earned recognition. While he was a tremendously positive force in the Council, he also encouraged us to “teach the younger guys” how to carry out the many duties he performed. Richard will be sorely missed but not forgotten. We will always remember him as the “Indispensable Knight.”

The funeral for Richard Milos was held on March 7, 2020 at St. Austin Catholic Church. Knights served as greeters, lectors and Eucharistic ministers. Three priests and a Deacon celebrated the mass. The Council provided a large floral centerpiece for the reception.
