By Larry Loftus, Texas Knight Reporter

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

Knights of Columbus Council 10930 has recently conducted its fourteen annual college or trade school scholarship awards.During this fourteen year period, Council 10930 has awarded over $52,000.00 in scholarships to winning scholarship applicants. These scholarships are awarded to applicants attending any major college, community college or trade school. Currently five scholarships are awarded each year to the winning applicants in the amount of $500.00 each. The scholarships are awarded in a lottery drawing. The applicant must be enrolled in a school for the upcoming school year and the funds are sent directly to the school. The applicants names must be submitted by a Knight of Council 10930.The eligible applicant must be a Knight of the council in good standing, wife of the Knight, child, grandchild, step child or step grandchild. The lottery drawing eliminates any bias in the awarding of the scholarship. This program has been very well received over the past fourteen years.

This year there were sixteen eligible applicants and five applicants were awarded a $500.00 scholarship. Normally the scholarships are awarded during the Installation of Officers dinner, but due to the Covid-19 shutdown this was not possible and lottery drawing and awards were done during a ZOOM meeting installation of officers. All scholarship winners were notified by mail.

We have found over the past fourteen years the scholarship winners have been very appreciative of the scholarship and those who were not lucky in the drawing have made application in the following year. The council plans to continue the scholarships in the future even with the restrictions of Covid-19. The Council continues to Leave No Neighbor Behind.
