St Thomas The Apostle Church Pavilion

When the new St. Thomas the Apostle Church was built several years ago, it provided for a nice parish hall within the building but with limited kitchen facilities. Our priest, Father Benjamin Hembrom consulted with Council 10930 if it was possible to construct a small pavilion outside the church next to the parish hall so some food could be prepared outside and brought into the parish hall for church gatherings. In the past, Council 10930 has prepared hamburgers and hot dogs on grills outside the church and had its Lenten Fish Frys in an uncovered area. This sometimes presented a problem when it started to rain.It was decided that a covered area could be constructed outside the church.

Through the personal donations of individual members of Council 10930 and use of Council Funds, the Council took on the task of constructing the pavilion.Materials were ordered with the plan to begin work in March. Then Covid-19 hit the country and work was brought to a halt.In July it was determined that with the proper precautions work could begin on the project. In August the pavilion was constructed with the donation of labor time by members of the parish and council. All that remains at the present time is some painting and the end of the Covid-19 shutdown so we can again have church gatherings for meals.Council 10930 plans on using the facility to continue the Lenten Fish Frys, prepare food during the parish fall festivals, and possibly restart the Council parish pancake breakfasts.Other organizations will also have the use of the area for their activities.

The dedication of the facility and an outside celebration is being planned.

Council 10930 continues during this time to support our Priest and parish in their needs. This is only one of the projects supported by the council. Council 10930 is always ready to support our Priest and parish.
