Pat Henz

My Brother Knights,

How are you adjusting to this pandemic? How is your family adjusting? What about your council, your parish, and even your community? These times have truly tested each one of us personally and within our councils. Now, more than ever, we – as Knights, must take care of our families, protect our parishes, and serve our communities.Just because a council cannot meet in person, doesn’t mean we can’t do these things. Many, including in our own councils and parishes, are isolated and alone in quarantine.Food banks, blood centers, and other essentials services have been depleted of their vital supplies. There are many people and places that require urgent help.

Several councils have been doing this sort of service for years, so it is nothing new.For other councils, this is an opportunity to create a “new norm” or a new activity and start one of these programs. The LEAVE NO NEIGHBOR BEHIND program is just that and gives us the opportunity to deepen our commitment to the very principles that define the Knights: Charity, Unity, and Fraternity.Has your council been contacting those alone in quarantine?Has the council collected food for the local food bank? Checked on your brother Knights or widows of council members? Helped sanitize the church for Father? If your council has done any activities like this, please make sure you are reporting it.Go to www.kofc.org and report it under the LNNB tab.

Don’t let this pandemic keep your council from conducting vital programs. If you can’t have your regular Pro-Life rosary in person, do it virtually. You can still promote family activities and even do a family prayer night via Zoom.Conduct the INTO THE BREACH program with in the council or even the parish. The point is, don’t let this pandemic stop the council from being active.

Plan your programs and plan a backup or alternative way of doing those programs. The success of any council comes from the success of its programs.Successful programs bring new members.Without these two, a council begins to fail.Grand Knights should have received the Fraternal Planner. This is a great tool and will help you plan ahead. And remember, after each activity, please submit a Fraternal Program Report #10784.This will help you keep track of all your activities throughout the year.

Another thing to remember is to promote the activities your council is doing.Put a follow up article in the church bulletin, submit an article to your Diocesan publication or local newspaper, and never forget to promote within the Order.Submit a photo with the info to the Columbia Magazine and best of all, to this publication – the Texas Knight.Mark Johnson is always asking for information and what a great way to show your council off.

The Program Team is here to help answer questions and provide suggestions in order for your council to achieve the ultimate goal – STAR COUNCIL.We will be sending out reminders each month to help you stay on top of what reports are due and any upcoming activities that time sensitive.
