Council 8141, Austin, TX continues Father Michael McGivney’s mission of assisting widows of its members. Recently, Brother Robert Reyes, a local contractor and past GK of Council 8141, was assisting Sacred Heart parishioner Rita Webster, widow of KC member Dwight Webster, to modify her home to accommodate caring for Diana, her paraplegic daughter. The modifications included widening halls, modifying doors, and reconstructing the shower to provide wheel chair access. Initial estimated cost was $4,000.

Brother Reyes felt Rita was in need of financial assistance. He presented the planned work and the cost to the Council and the Council voted to cover the estimated cost. Brother Reyes stated he would donate his personal time. After construction started, additional issues and requirements arose increasing the cost of the modifications to approximately $10,000. Brother Reyes again came before the Council and explained Rita’s dilemma. Council members voted to cover the additional cost as well. Additionally, members donated personal funds to assist Rita.

The work has been completed and Rita responded to the Knights by saying, “Thank you, to Robert Reyes and his team for a job well done. It will make life for Diana and for Rita easier. We appreciate this more than you know for your kindness and generosity. May God continue to bless you and all your efforts.”
