Casino Night with Council 9708

St Clare of Assisi Knights of Columbus Council 9708, a strong and growing Council in Houston, Clear Lake area, has increased in membership 25% in last three years to a total of 124 members.

This Council on January 23 conducted a fourth very successful Casino Night in our new Parish Life Center. We had 18 tables of Black Jack, one Roulette table, two Poker tables and one Showdown Poker table. Attendance was 220 players from St Clare and three neighboring parishes. That is a large increase from prior years.

Games ran from 7:00 PM until 10:30 when the tables closed and the players converted their casino chips into raffle tickets. 22 donated prizes were raffled including numerous dining gift certificates, merchandise, wine baskets , quilts, paintings, a special rosary and even a fishing trip. 10 of the larger prizes were offered in a silent auction. Last was a l ive auction of a dinner for 12 prepared and served at the rectory by Fr. Vincent Nguyen. Proceeds support the Council’s numerous community, parish and charitable programs.

St Clare is especially proud of the support we received from St Bernadette Council 10959, (21 players and two raffle gifts), Shrine of the True Cross Council 3217 (9 players), and St Mary’s La Porte Council 5232 (a regulation size Roulette wheel). We appreciate the cooperation of the other Councils.
