Council 8482 Serves the Crowd at Ground Breaking

By David Lewis

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

Father John Keller and Prince of Peace hosted a ground breaking ceremony for all the families of the parish on October 23, 2015. Father John wanted a day of celebration including games, rides, fun, and food for the parishioners attending. In anticipation of having 4,000 hungry parishioners Father John turned to Grand Council 8482’s Knight Gary Maly to ask if the Knights would provide Bar-B-Que sandwiches and hotdogs for all the guests. Under the direction of Brother Vince Bonura the council smoked 65 brisket and 50 pork roasts for the sandwiches. Brother Vince also arranged to get donations of hamburger and hotdog buns.

Because of a severe storm with heavy rain, the number of sandwiches was reduced in anticipation of the event being moved inside and the weather. The brothers of 8482 on the Saturday of the event made a total of 1500 Bar-B-Que chopped beef and the pulled pork individually wrapped sandwiches. A 1000 hotdogs where prepared on that day for the kids. Council 8482 then distributed the sandwiches along with chips to all attending the ground breaking. The food must have been good because there were many requests for seconds.
