Knight Hands Serving Those in Need

Since its’ inception 5+ years ago Knight Hands, part of the Knights of Columbus Council 8157 in Duncanville, Tx. has completed 160 community service projects in the Holy Spirit parish community. The mission of Knight Hands is “to assist those in the Holy Spirit parish community live a more peaceful and stress free life by providing minor home repairs, household chores, yard maintenance and transportation services to those who qualify”. During this time period, Knights of this Council have volunteered 2,112 hours of their time and have bought materials to complete these projects in the amount of $6,531.99. Knight Hands has received numerous contributions for the work performed.

Projects have ranged from 380 man/hours to 1 man/hour; yet each was a special event in the lives of those affected. Knight Hands have repaired roofs, walls, floors, plumbing leaks; electrical problems; Knight Hands have trimmed trees, installed fencing, build cabinets, built offices, built wheelchair ramps, provided transport to and from doctor offices, and moved a number of families. Many of the projects were completed for widowed women who do not know where to turn for reliable help.

Knight Hands has a cadre of 55 Knights with varied skills that have volunteered to help when and where needed. Knights Hands has electricians, plumbers, carpenters, floor repair guys, lifters, and any amount of assorted skills that make our mission possible. In this “Jubilee Year of Mercy”, Knight Hands demonstrates in a very tangible way what Jesus has asked us to do – love thy neighbor.
