KC’s go to bat for PLACE OF HOPE

Place of Hope (POH), crisis pregnancy center in downtown Rockdale, now has a new almost $15,000 ultrasound machine, thanks to the local Knights of Columbus Councils and the national Supreme Council.

Officials from both organizations gathered recently for presentations of twin $7,396 checks, one from Council 7014 and the other from KC Charities, Inc.

Tommy Grimes, Council Financial Secretary said a 2014 conversation over POH’s 15-year- old ultrasound machine noted that the national KC organization has an “ultrasound initiative” with a 50-percent matching requirement by local Councils. In early 2015, Council 7014 raised $6,208 toward the effort with a barbeque chicken sale. Grimes said the help of Rosebud, Cameron, Caldwell and Cyclone/Marak councils, plus donations collected at Holy rosary Parish in Frenstat, the goal was within reach.

“Place of Hope’s annual dinner last April helped reach the goal through collection jars on the tables to collect the remaining few dollars needed,” Grimes said. Lynn Williams, KC Texas State Ultrasound Initiative guided the application through the state council and it was signed by State deputy Terry Simonton. Simonton came to Rockdale for the ceremony and is pictured above as is Jose Macha, district Deputy. Dee Ann smith of the Austin Diocese visited Rockdale to sign off on POH’s criteria.

“We thank all who helped with their time, talent and treasure to see this project to completion,” Grimes said.
