Retired Commander Victor Egger

Victor Egger. Charter Member of 5243 in Irving Texas a Naval Hero of WWII has passed on to greater Glory in Early February 2016. He served in WWII,Korean and The Cold War.He survived eleven major naval battles including the sinking of the USS Hornet CV-8. The Hornet was famous for the launching of The Doolittle Raid on Tokyo following the Attack on Peral Harbor. Commander Eggers was the Deck Officer who relayed the take off order to Col Doolittle and his flight of B-25’s from the Carrier. This raid is credited with bolstering morale of the Public and US Troops following Pearl Harbor. The raid inspired Hollywood to produce the famous movie Thirty Seconds over Tokyo Starring Spencer Tracy, Van Johnson , Robert Mitchum and others; This too strengthing morale. He served on five combat ships.

After the military Vic served at his Holy Family Church of Irving since it’s inception in1963. The first pastor of that Church will officiate at The funeral Mass on Feb 6th, 2016. Vic was 94.and will be missed dearly by his many friends and family. The John F Kennedy 4th degree Assembly 1122 will provide honor guard for both Rosary Visitation and Funeral Mass.Msgrs, Rehkemper, Duesman and Current Pastor Fr. Becher offered up The Mass of Christian burial, Interment at Calvary Hill in Dallas
