WOW, what a start to the year in Charity. In the first 6 months of this fraternal year, you the members, the councils, the districts, and the diocese of Texas, have done an outstanding job working to provide funds to help those in need.

As of the end of the calendar year, 375 councils of the 695 active councils in Texas have made 100% or more of their charity goal. Along with those councils, we would like to recognize the following councils that have gone above and beyond the basic “meeting their goal”.

  • +200 % - Councils 1766 (Rhineland), 7290 (Corpus Christi), 11570 (Corpus Christi), and 15512 (Taft)
  • +300 % - Councils 6832 (Odem), Councils 10224 (Odem), and 13970 (Corpus Christi)
  • +600% - Council 14776 in Sinton

We would also like to take this opportunity to recognize 33 Districts for making their charity goal by the end of the calendar year.

As for the individual diocese in Texas, please look at the following table to see how yours stacks up. I would like to point out that compared to recent years, Laredo is coming on very strong. I have a commitment from the Diocesan Deputy Carlos Ramirez that they are going to make 100% of their goal. My hat is off to the Worthy Diocesan Deputy and all the councils in that diocese for working to make Father McGivney’s dream a reality. Tyler Diocese is on the cusp of their 23th consecutive year of making their goal with 92%. And Fort Worth Diocese is right there also at 90% and approaching their 21st consecutive year of getting to 100%+.

In looking at the numbers, 54% of the active councils in the State have submitted 66% of our goal. To those councils and districts that met their charity goals, we offer a very big THANK YOU and congratulations. Through the efforts of every council that has contributed, the Knights of Columbus State Council has been able to help where needed. We invite you to continue your contributions so that the State Council can answer when a request for help comes in. And we encourage all councils that have not yet met their goal to continue to work toward their goal and shoot for 100%.

As I said in the beginning of this article, I want to thank all those councils in our great State that have made the commitment, that have stood tall, and have provided the State Council with the funds to help our brothers in need. But our work is not done! We still need your help! We started this fraternal year on a strong note in our giving. We are at 66% of our goal, but we must continue the momentum. We need ALL councils to get on board. Most of us have much to be thankful for, but Father McGivney began our Order to help those less fortunate. We are charged with continuing his mission. Through you and your council’s contributions, we can answer the call of those in need. As has been said many times, charity is the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. When YOU contribute more, we can do more to help those in need. The need never goes away. With the commitment of all of our councils, in all of our districts, in all 15 dioceses in Texas, we can achieve our charity goal. We can continue to help those in need in our great state. We need ALL councils to get on board.
