Fourth Degree Knights 3rd Texas District

By SK Dennis M. Stark 3rd Texas District Public Relation Liaison

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

SK Pat Conway, Master of the 3rd Texas District, along with members of his staff and Sir Knights from several Assemblies, capped off a very successful 2016-2017 fraternal year by participating in the Annual Memorial Day Services at the DFW National Cemetery. In the fall of 2010, the 3rd Texas District became the ONLY Knights of Columbus members in the world permitted to participate with the military in a National Cemetery’s annual Veteran’s Day services. Our participation was such that we were invited to return for the Memorial Day services also. Our support of the Cemetery has gone beyond our mere presence here. The “powers that be” have cut much of the funding to the Cemetery for putting on memorial services, so many Assemblies in the 3rd Texas District have begun providing monetary donations to help insure the continuance of these important events.

You will note in the picture that all members are wearing white tuxedo jackets and that our capes are missing. Cemetery directives for these events require white in the spring and black in the fall. AS for the capes, the Chief in charge of the Cemetery told us that he did not want anything ”flapping in the wind other than his flags.” The Supreme Master was notified of these requirements and has given us permission for the variance in uniform.

Of all the events, Exemplifications and Honor Guards we participate in, being able to assist the military at the National Cemetery is one that makes many of us most proud.
