The Sisters of St. Mary of Namur played a major role in the education of thousands of North Texans working in parish schools and even in the University of Dallas. This was especially true in St. Patrick Parish and their key role in St. Xavier Academy in Denison, Texas. Although St. Xavier has been closed for many years the presence of the sisters can still be seen by the fifteen markers in Calvary Cemetery, St. Patrick’s cemetery in Denison.
When it was brought to the attention of members of Council 830 that the grave markers of the sisters buried at Calvary were in need of some cleaning and maintenance, they asked Squires Circle 3608 members if they would be willing in providing the labor to scrub and clean the grave markers. Armed with a wide range of brushes from toothbrushes to much larger brushes the Squires cleaned the grave markers including those of three pastors buried in the same area. The Squires also assisted in placing more than 160 American flags on the graves of veterans each Memorial day.
