Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025
The Knights of Columbus Council 15174 of Holy Spirit Catholic Church was truly Knights in Service when they were asked to host the Second and Third Degree Ceremony for 15 Candidates from 9 areas within East Texas to become Brother Knights. Each of the Candidates had previously earned and were awarded the First Degree.
Since this request represented a prestigious honor and distinction, the Council was eager to accept and let our light shine brightly.
The Knights of Columbus is a Christian Fraternal Organization dedicated to the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. A First Degree exemplification is a ceremony in which a man joins the Order and makes, clearly states and explains the virtue of Charity. He is then said to be a First Degree Knight. After participating in the subsequent degrees, each of which focuses on another virtue, he rises to the next stature. Upon reaching the Third Degree, a Knight is a full member. Our new Third Degree Brothers are in every way worthy of the honor confirmed upon them and are encouraged by the various dignitaries representing the members’ respective Councils to return to their Council and get involved in Council activities as well as their parish and community. Two of the 15 candidates are members of Holy Spirit Parish and Council 15174. Congratulations to Eric Hurley and Bob Parker.
Upon obtaining their Third Degree designation these Knights are eligible to receive the Fourth Degree which principle is dedicated to advance the spirit of patriotism and to promote active Catholic participation.
The following Councils were represented: Athens, Dangerfield, Flint, Holly Lake, Lindale, Marshall, Palestine, Sulphur Springs and Whitehouse.
It is customary upon conclusion of the ceremony that a meal be served. The remarkable cooks and staff of Council 15174 put together a delightful, pleasing to the taste luncheon consisting of ham, beans, coleslaw, bread, desserts, tea and coffee.
Congratulations and appreciation was expressed to our Council for this extraordinary day and for an assignment that was perfectly executed and exceeded expectations.
