Fr. E Philip O’Hern Council 10776 at St. Austin Catholic Church in Austin conducted the following charitable activities since the start of the fraternal year.
- Diaper Drive. In response to an urgent request in mid-July from the Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley (CCRGV) for help at their Refugee Respite Center in McAllen, Texas., the Council quickly donated diapers and Warden Charles Vernor, who was driving to the Valley anyway, delivered over 1900 diapers to the Refugee Respite Center on July 19, 2018.
- The St. Vincent de Paul society at St. Austin’s sponsored a “Stuff The Truck” event. The objective was to fill a delivery truck with usable household items and clothing. Donated items would be given to the Vincentian Family Center’s thrift store for resale. Six members of Council 10776 assisted with loading donations into the truck and it was indeed “stuffed.”
- Monthly financial support continues for St. Louise House and the Gabriel Project. Grand Knight Paul Lewis presented Carmen Adams, Gabriel Project Director, with a check for $100 at the Gabriel Project’s Respect Life Baby Shower on Oct. 7, 2018.
- Profits and donations from our October taco breakfast were combined with Council funds and were donated to two disaster relief efforts:
- Knights of Columbus Charities in response to East Coast hurricanes
- Catholic Charities of Central Texas in response to flooding in the Highland Lakes area
- The Council provided financial support for Regina Mater Capital Campaign on Oct 13. Regina Mater is a catholic educational community that aids home schooling families.
- Two Council members participated in the Diocesan-level request for volunteers to distribute cases of bottled water on October 26 to citizens affected by the boil water notice in the City of Austin water utility service area.
