On Saturday December 2nd at the evening Banquet for the Texas State Council’s Mid-Year Meeting of District Deputies, Associate State Chaplain Bishop Brendan Cahill received a donation of $150,000 from the Knights of Columbus. After noting the Hurricane Harvey response and relief efforts spearheaded by the Knights of Columbus across the region, Texas State Deputy Douglas Oldmixon highlighted the most recent gifts of over $610,000 directly to some of the most heavily damaged churches and parishes in the Dioceses of Corpus Christi, Galveston-Houston and Beaumont. “We are honored to be able to make this gift of $150,000 is to help with repairs of the extensive damage to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory in the Diocese of Victoria.” Oldmixon said. Bishop Cahill was completely surprised by the presentation and was most gracious in his expression of gratitude. “I am overwhelmed,” Bishop Cahill said; “I don’t know how you kept this a secret, but it worked. This tremendous gift will really help our cathedral community with our rebuilding efforts. I can’t thank you enough! May God continue to bless all the works of the Knights.” With this gift, the total monetary donations raised from members across the Order and used to provide direct relief to stricken communities in Texas exceeded $1.8 Million. This is in addition to the over 60,000 meals and hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours providing relief and assistance to those in need.
