Fr. E Philip O’Hern Council 10776

By Paul Lewis GK, 10776 St. Austin Catholic Church

Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025

Fr. E Philip O’Hern Council 10776 at St. Austin Catholic Church in Austin conducted the following charitable and other seasonal activities since November 1, 2018.

  • Monthly financial support continues for St. Louise House and the Gabriel Project.
  • Members donated canned and dry-packaged food during the Thanksgiving holiday in support of the parish’s St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Christmas Basket Project.
  • As part of St. Austin’s Christmas Holiday Fair, the council provided gift cards for 4 elderly gentlemen selected from the SVdP’s Ron Gibson Memorial Giving Tree and gave an additional $250 to help fund the Christmas Basket Project. During the Fair, the council operated the concession stand, selling breakfast tacos, fajitas, sausage wraps, hotdogs and drinks as part of our fundraising activities.
  • On Gift Basket delivery day, several members helped deliver gift baskets to the selected families and elderly. The “baskets” are actually large boxes overflowing with food and gift-wrapped packages, even bicycles!
  • Council members erected the Nativity scene in the courtyard of St. Austin’s Church. SK Larry Schroeder and George Pratte made the wooden structure several years ago. At the conclusion of the Christmas season, council members disassembled the structure and packed everything away until next Advent season.
  • The same crew of members also judged the final 4 posters in our Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest. The St. Austin Catholic School art teacher guided the 4th and 5th grade classes in creating their posters. The winner is Matthew Gay, 4th grade.
  • After our Corporate Communion on January 26, 2019, we honored member Richard Milos with a special dinner for his many contributions to the council, church and school. Over the course of 16 years, Richard has recruited many members of our council, conducted many K of C events for our school and provided endless support to the parish. He recently transferred to Council 5967 at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church.
