Sleep in Heavenly Peace

By Richard Silver

Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025

Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a charitable organization which makes new beds and provides bedding and pillows to children of needy families.Unfortunately, there are over 500 children waiting for beds right here in San Antonio. To help these children, our KC Council sponsored a BED BUILD DAY at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Saturday, November 10, 2018.On Build Day, SHP brought their expertise and all the tools, equipment, supplies and materials … we just brought the labor. SHP volunteers guided us through the entire process.

Many thanks to all the Knights who generously donated their time volunteering for our Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) Bed Build Day. Particular thanks go to JR Reed, our Grand Knight, for recognizing and supporting this effort as a great way for our council to give back to the community. We co-built with First United Methodist Church (Austin) who provided many young adults to help.

Special thanks to Msgr. Mike for allowing us to use the church’s pavilion and parking areas as well as leading us off with a morning blessing;Eddie Arnold (President, SHP – San Antonio) and his crew for keeping us on task by facilitating the Build and Deliveries. We reached our goal of making parts for 60 new beds and delivering 34 beds, bedding, pillows, blankets, etc., to children in need here in San Antonio.

I hope we can do this again in the future, perhaps in conjunction with other ministries within our Holy Trinity parish.

Blessings, Steve Senia, Event Coordinator

We were very excited when Steve came up to us inquiring our ability to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Steve talked about how all children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads. The program started in Idaho and has now spread across the US…too many boys and girls go without a bed—or even a pillow—to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. This can affect their happiness and their health. That’s where Sleep in Heavenly Peace comes in. A group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. Their organization has grown steadily over time, and they are working on opening more chapters in different states to serve more people. We were very anxious to support this project in conjunction with parishioners of Holy Trinity. What a great way to start the Holiday season, giving to those less fortunate and truly making a difference in someone’s life. We would like to continue this project in the coming years.

Blessings, J.R. James D Reed
