By Robert B. "Bob" Goss State Advocate Texas State Council

Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025

Goss

All councils need insurance - - it is required by the Diocese.

The Movie Doc Hollywood (1991) has comedic lines that are on point about viewpoints, money, and doing what is clear:

Dr. Stone: You know, I just thought of something. I guess I'm gonna have time to collect that ten dollars from Nick.

Vialula: You lost that bet.

Dr. Stone: Says who? I did not lose it.

Vialula: Says me.

Dr. Stone: Says you? You have no say in this bet - you are the bet.

Vialula: I don't care. The bet was for one week. You lost.

Dr. Stone: Ah, it's your word against mine.

Vialula: You mean you would sully my reputation for ten measly dollars?

Dr. Stone: [laughs] Absolutely! I don't even know what sully means.

Dr. Halberstrom quoting Dr. Hogue to Dr. Stone during an interview:

“I would be a bovine clod fated, citified moron, if I did not hire you on the spot.”

The first quote highlights people twist facts to get money, while the second quote highlights a mandate is the best option.Simply put all Grand Knights and Navigators have a duty to protect their council, Assemblies, Hall, Officers, and Brothers.Insurance is cheap compared to a lawsuit.

YOU BUY INSURANCE BEFORE YOU NEED IT.Think it cannot happen - - a Brother recently fell face first into a fryer of hot oil.He required emergency care and has ongoing surgeries - - the COUNCIL HAD INSURANCE to help care for the brother.

The Knights have Insurance setup SPECIFICALLY FOR you and your council:The Officer Desk Reference states:

Lockton also provides Indemnification to the parish and Diocese at no extra charge. The insurance is cheap compared to an insurance claim.

The cost is approximately $2.40 per active member. The Assembly is added as an Additional Insured at no cost, however, if they wish to be included as a First Named Insured on the policy they can also complete an application and give us their active membership count and we will include them on the policy. This will ensure that they have coverage when they are hosting their own events that are not associated with a Council event.

Our Bishops and many priests are mandating councils to have insurance that indemnifies and names the parish and Diocese as named parties to the policy.

Again, Lockton Affinity at 1-800-496-0288, so don’t be a bovine clod fated, citified moron - - get insurance for your council, Assembly, officers, and Hall.
