My Brother Knights all:

I would like to report to you where we stand as of today 5/8/19 for the 2018-2019 membership intake for the Texas State Council. We set a goal of 5000 new or reactivate Knights for this fraternal year. This was a doable goal based on the intake from years of the past. Our assigned goal by the Supreme Council is 4600. The 5/7/19 report by Intake Tracker Brad Meyer shows 537 Councils have brought in 3172 new Knights. We have had 87 Councils meet or exceed their intake goal, with 45 Councils who have met both their intake and insurance goal.

What does all this mean? Well, we have 750 Councils in Texas, so we have had around 213 non recruiting Councils. Wow, we all know we need new members, we also know we all who truly believe in Fr. McGivney’s dream that all Catholic men need to be invited, encouraged and asked to be a member of the Knights of Columbus. If you believe in what we do, and what we believe in our Order, why is your Council not recruiting active? According to our past history we are having the worst intake year in the 20 year history of tracking the Texas intake. I ask you why this happening? What has caused this lack of desire to bring new Knights in?We are recognizing our recruiters, Councils, DD’s and Dioceses for their work in recruiting and rewarding them. We have been sharing thoughts and ideas on Parish recruiting drives. All Councils need to stand in the pulpit of their Parishes and proudly tell our fellow Catholics who we are, and what we stand for. Men want to be a part of a helpful and active Council.

We need your help! We need to have all Councils bring in 2 more Knights in this the last month and ½ of this fraternal year. We can get the 1400 Knights we need to keep Texas as the leader in the History of our Order. We are the largest jurisdiction in the Americas! We have many hoping we will fall off the top of the ladder. We need to keep in place the long time saying of “As Texas goes so goes the Order” Do you want to be a part of the worst year Texas has had in 20 years? I do not want this, and I hope you feel the same as I do. We must all pull together in Unity to make this change. Let your light shine by recruiting a new Knight.

We have had a good year with the new Online membership program. This year we have had 505 men join online this fraternal year. Of these we have had 235 convert to become Council members. This new Supreme program helps us with the men who want to study and think about joining the Knights online. I am a firm believer in the way that has worked for 137 years of our Order. Shaking a man’s hand, looking him in the eye and inviting and informing him on why he should join our “Band of Brothers” Do it for your Council, do it for the State Council of Texas, Do it for the memory of Fr. McGivney, Do it as it is the right thing to do in Charity, Unity, Fraternity and for Patriotism.
