The World of Council #13520

By Pat Haney

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

Over the course of the last several years, we have continued to see the Knights of Columbus expand recognition of the order throughout the world. As an example, the order has now reached out to South Korea in 2015. In addition, we have now seen an expansion into Africa with the formation of a roundtable in Makurdi Diocese in Nigeria. The principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism are such an important of our order that we need to do everything to insure the expansion of the Knights of Columbus around the world.

This desire to be a part of worldwide growth and expansion of our order has not been lost or gone without effort on the part of Council #13520. We have continued to grow our membership and especially have reached out to welcome members who have immigrated here from African countries. In addition, as family members visit, we have tried to include them, wherever possible, in understanding the Knights along with our activities. As an example, Felix Sanny one of our members has a brother who is a priest in Benin Africa. During a visit, we had him join us during his stay and participate in our Pro-Life effort of praying the rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in front of the abortion clinics. In fact, he completed 5 visits and was presented with the ACE wings before he returned home. He took this back with him to Benin, where in his ministry reached out to his parish on the tragedy of abortion and resulted in an impact that glorified God.

Our Council was again blessed with an opportunity to participate and support the annual Charismatic convention that was held in Dallas last August. Over 200 people from around the country attended the convention at Mary Immaculate in Farmers Branch. This included several priests and a Bishop from Cameroon Africa. Our Council assisted in preparing and serving dinner for the participants as well joined them in a very special mass celebrated by the Bishop.

These activities are a blessing to our council and especially our parish as we extend ourselves to imitate Christ. Following are pictures from this event.
