Like Father, Like Son. Council 10776’s newest member is Joel Ponce who completed the First Degree exemplification on October 17, 2019. His father, Oscar Ponce, is a member of Council 1553 in Brownsville, Texas and drove up to Austin to join his son for the occasion.
For the safety of our school children, members of Council 10776 donned safety gear the evening of October 26, 2019. The occasion was St. Austin Catholic School’s Halloween Hoot. Many kids and parents in costume had to cross a very busy street to enter the school grounds and the Knights were there to ensure their safety. The photos shows the attire of the well-dressed crossing guard and the spooky grounds of the Hoot.
The Council hosted the Silver Rose on Sunday October 27, 2019 at four masses. GK Lewis processed in with the rose at the beginning of each mass and placed it on the alter. He held the rose for parishioners to observe as they filed out of church. The Council led a rosary in the Mary Chapel after the 8:45 a.m. mass and also led the rosary for the Gabriel Project after the 11:30 a.m. mass.
The Council worked with the art teacher of St. Austin Catholic School to conduct the “Keep Christ In Christmas” poster contest in December. Students from all 8 grades showed off their artistic talent thus making the judging a challenge! Four Council members reached a decision and selected one poster for the honor of First Place Overall, shown below.
The Council prepared 175 sack lunches for participants in the Right to Life march to the capitol in Austin on January 25, 2020. The hungry marchers from San Angelo were given the lunches (consisting of a ham, turkey and cheese sandwich, chips and condiments) for their return trip home. We assembled and boxed the sack lunches assembly line style in the school gym. The whole task took about an hour. PGK Chris Campana holds up the last sandwich!
As part of Catholic Schools Week theme “Celebrating Our Nation and State”, St. Austin Catholic School held an assembly the morning of January 29, 2020, to honor the local police, fire fighters, EMS , active military and veterans. The Knights of Columbus were also honored for our contributions to the school. Pictured with the lineup of honorees is GK Paul Lewis. Many of the youngest students filed past the Austin Police to give them “high fives.”
