Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025
After the Stay at Home Order issued by Mayor Dee Margo of El Paso, Texas, Churches have been greatly affected since March 13, 2020. The El Paso Diocese followed the order and locking down the all churches in the Dioceses beginning March 14, 2020.This affected the way Catholics attended Mass and Sunday Offertory contributions made by parishioners.
St. Francis Xavier Church led by Father Jose Perez Vera and a Knight of the council. This is the home base of operation for Del Norte Council 2592. This parish is a small community that mainly serves an Elderly population who devoutly attend Mass in person. The Sunday Mass offertory collection went to an all-time low since there was no physical mass presence thus no offertory collections were being performed. These parishioners traditionally rely on cash transactions and don’t have checking accounts to write checks to comply with the Diocese direction to make contributions via electronic methods.
The church was facing very little, too no income coming in to meet its financial obligations. On the direction of the council’s FS - Jesus Granado Jr. Council 2592 opted to make a substantial donation to St. Francis Xavier Church.Utilizing the pandemic communication protocols an Emergency meeting was called via Email communication with council Knights to present a Resolution to help with a donation of $1,500.00. This was followed with a Second and Final Resolution email communication to follow Supreme Council Chapter Constitution Laws section 122(b).The Council practiced voting by email reply for the proposed resolution to finalize the adoption to help the Church.A unanimous result was recorded on April 1, 2020 via the email voting communication from participating council Knights.
In adherence to the Stay at Home Order, the actual funds were transmitted through electronic processing to the Church bank account so that we were incompliance with the order. However, a check was presented to Father Jose Perez Vera in person by Grand Knight Javier Roman on April 17, 2020 to commemorate the event following Social Distancing guidelines.
We are glad to announce the Church is doing well with Contributions from parishioners utilizing the US Postal Service or dropping off their offertory envelopes at the Church office mailbox.
