As the Sealy Co. 3313 started out their 2020 Famous Sealy KC Lenten Fish Fry Drive Thru Only season the national Covid19 pandemic landed with communities responding or adapting in various ways.Prior to the pandemic’s arrival the net proceeds of the council’s Lenten Fish Fry season donations were already approved to support two Archdiocesan Galveston-Houston Seminarians at $500 each and sponsor two local Immaculate Conception Church youth at $750 each to attend the Leadership Conference in Kansas. In addition the Council had approved to replace the overhead lighting with new LED lighting in the ICC Parish Center at a cost of approximately $9,000 for the material and KC members will provide the labor.

As the pandemic landed, near the end of the Lenten season, the community restaurants were shut down with the exception of primarily fast food drive thru’s only, patrons started requesting that the fish fry’s not cease but continue beyond Lent. The council considered and as community needs heighten the Council scheduled additional Drive Thru Dinners and made additional donations to local charitable causes. The local Sealy community support during the entire season was just overwhelming, and the response related to record breaking plate count being served, several times breaking the previous week’s record!

On April 17, entire net proceeds were split between the local Sealy Christian Food Pantry and local Immaculate Conception Church, both receiving $1,494.From the May 8 Fish Fry proceeds, $533 was donated to the local Austin County HOA Meals on Wheels. The following week’s May 15 Fish Fry, $557 was donated to the Sealy Pregnancy Center.
