Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025
Saint Thomas More Council 9997 in Austin, TX became aware of a significant need for help from our area Food Banks. During the difficulties area residents have faced with the pandemic, the need to provide food assistance has doubled since last year. DGK Frank Kelly stepped up and organized a food drive like no other in our history. Instead of accepting donations just on Sundays, he extended it to daily contributions and managed the daily collection and storage for over a 3 week period in July. This brought our parish community into play to the point that we collected over 3500 pounds of food and supplies for the Hill Country Community Ministries (HCCM) Food Pantry. We also collected over $2,200 in donations! This will be a great help to our neighbors in crisis and those living in poverty in southwest Williamson and northwest Travis counties. Leave No Neighbor Behind. A second drive is in the planning stages, and in the interim, our Council has established a monthly volunteering program (5 Knights) for one afternoon shift a month at the Central Texas Food Bank sorting and preparing food packages for needy members of our community.
