Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025
Below are Wheelchair Mission activities, which I am aware of, since the last article in August. Please let me know what your councils and dioceses are doing to support the American Wheelchair Mission so I can include them in future updates.
In September, St. Mary of the Visitation Council 8131 in Lockhart held a Wheelchair Sunday and raised $3,900 for 26 wheelchairs.
The Tyler Diocese received their first ever small container of 115 wheelchairs which they worked so hard to provide. Thanks to their former Diocesan Deputy David Zeigler for all his efforts in making it possible.
In October, St. Mark the Evangelist Council 6065 in Plano held their 3rd Annual Wheelchair Sunday and so far has raised $7,980 for 53 wheelchairs. Thanks to Brother Charlie Minjares for again leading this effort.
As of October 31st, the state of Texas has raised $23,073 for 153 wheelchairs. Shown below are the Totals by Diocese.
The goal for each Diocese is 100% participation of the Councils (donate at least $150 for one wheelchair) and 10% of the active Councils within a Diocese to hold a Wheelchair Sunday. For example, if a Diocese has 30 active Councils, their goal would be to raise $4,500 from 100% participation plus the funds from 3 Wheelchair Sundays. If you don’t have a Diocesan Wheelchair Chairman, the Diocesan Deputy should assign one to work closely with me to achieve the goals of the Diocese.
A great way to raise funds for this mission is by having Wheelchair Sunday at your parish. With precautions being taken because of the pandemic, Wheelchair Sundays are being scheduled and held.
Please email me your donation details, but mail checks and donation forms to Dan Moberg, American Wheelchair Mission, 2600 E. Seltice Way, Suite A172, Post Falls, ID 83854-7991.Also, please be sure your Council Number and Diocese are on your checks, so that your donation will be properly credited.Go to www.amwheelchair.org/donate for online donations.
