Charity

By Derek Rabey, Charity Director

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

Charity – It is more than almsgiving; It is more than good works. As many of us learned in the lessons of the 1st Degree, Charity begins at home and it starts with us as we must take the first step. Are we ensuring our families will be appropriately taken care of?This is the very reason our Order was founded back in 1882.A Knight of Columbus has all the tools necessary available to them to ensure this never happens. Are we fully putting our fraternal benefits to work?

A Knight of Columbus is called to a fraternal charity with his brother Knights. As Brother Knights we are in Solidarity with our Bishops and Priests.Ensuring the charitable works of our Bishops are supported is a duty, not a courtesy. It is up to each of us to meet this obligation imposed by Heaven. Each year, every Brother Knight is called to contribute $10.00 in support of Texas State Council Charities. From this contribution, $7.00 is returned to the Bishop of your Diocese to be used in support of their designated Charity.Charitable works such as Deaf Ministries, Seminarian Formation, Intellectual Disabilities, and many more. The remaining $3.00 is retained by the State Council Charity Board to meet other charitable needs.Needs such as support for Special Olympics Texas, Disaster Relief, assistance for Brother Knights in need; just to name a few.Have you personally answered this call for support of Texas State Council Charities?

May each of us never forget Charity is the first and foremost principle of our Order and this is the greatest of all virtues, the crowning glory of a Christian life.In God and with God, we love even those we do not know. This is the charity that evangelizes. This is the charity that gladdens the heart.

VIVAT JESUS!
