Sportsman’s Delight Fundraiser

By John Buck, GK Council 2917

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

K of C Council 2917 in Houston, Texas started selling raffle tickets for their new fundraiser, Sportsman’s Delight in January of 2020. The fundraiser was planned for May of 2020, but COVID 19 came in March and interrupted our fundraising plans. After postponing the fundraiser date twice, we settled on January 2021 for our Sportsman’s Delight Fundraiser. This was an important fundraiser for us with 50% of the net income benefitting our council’s 3 partner parish schools- Assumption, St. Rose of Lima and St. Ambrose Parish Schools.

Due to COVID 19, our Sportsman’s Delight Fundraiser was limited to a raffle with drive thru, to-go dinners only, the social had to be eliminated for social safety reasons. We sold our maximum of 400 raffle tickets and served 600 dinners. We feel that this fundraiser was a success, especially through the adversity and challenges that we met with COVID 19, we were able to donate $1,500 to each of our 3 partner parish schools, totaling $4,500 going towards helping the parents of our schools keep their children in a Catholic school environment for education and teaching our Catholic Faith and morals.

As with all of our council programs, we practiced the 3 Principles of our Order- Charity- promoting and giving to our Catholic Schools; Unity- providing a place where we as Catholics could come together; and Fraternity- our council brothers working together on this project.
