Time flies

By SK Reed A Fontenot, III, PGK, FDD, State Director Star Council Awards

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

Time flies and we are already 1/3 through the Fraternal Year! Now that we are back interacting with our Brother Knights in our Faith Communities it is time to take stock of what we have accomplished in our Councils thus far this year. Star Council should be a goal for every Council. This award means you are doing everything right! So where are we right now?

Forms. We have 743 active councils in Texas with many reactivations so far this year. We have received 89% of the required Form 185’s and 76% of the required Form 365’s. We are in a good spot but we need to get this number to 100% by the end of 2021. The Form 1728 will be due at the end of January documenting your charitable hours and monetary contributions for the year 2021. We need your help to make this happen!

Safe Environment. 171 Councils are now fully compliant with the GK and three Council Directors all completing their required training, but we still have a lot of work to do. So far this year, 78% of the Grand Knights have finished training and 45% of the required Directors have completed their training. Many Directors did not complete in the required 30 days so their positions have been vacated by Supreme. Please review your council “Safe Environment Member Status Report” under online reports. You may need to re-send an online 365 to ensure you have new Directors in the Program, Community and Family positions. Completing this in a timely fashion is needed for these men to remain in their positions. One more reminder. Effective with our new Fraternal Year, the Grand Knight is the only one who can hold one other position if needed (Program, Community and Family Directors are the others) so a minimum of three men are required for the Council to be Safe Environment cleared. This is a mandatory requirement from Supreme. IF you have any questions the Office of Youth Protection is very responsive. You can reach them at 203-752-4640 or via email at oyp@kofc.org.

Fraternal Benefit Nights. The requirement is to complete two of these during the year. A number have been done at the Council and Diocese level. By the time of this publication we will have held a Statewide event hosted by the Texas General Agents on November 10th. Remember, you need to own the credit process so ensure your agent receives the required General Agent reporting form (Form 11077) showing when you completed and how you advertised the events.

Membership and Programs. Please ensure your are on track with your membership goals and the required 16 programs!

Brothers, the Star Council Award Team is here to help! Please reach out to any of us with your needs and we will do our best to accommodate!
