CEREMONY FOR PRESENTATION OF A GIFTED SWORD

By SK Michael Steinbach – FN Assembly 2683

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

Gifted Swords 2

Last fall, Assembly 2683 in Spring TX, established a “Respect the Sword” program to serve as a bridge between the Sir Knights who no longer participate in Color Corp activities and the newer Sir Knights who wish to be more involved in the order.

As members of the Fourth Degree with our uniform and sword, we not only protect Bishops and Priests at religious ceremonies, but we support the widows and families of our deceased brother Knights by providing an honor guard at their funerals.

The ceremonial sword we carry on these occasions symbolizes the mission of the Knights of Columbus to the strong right arm of the Church.

To instill a sense of pride in carrying the sword, at the January meeting, two Knights were presented with swords by SK Michael Steinbach – FN. One was the white handled officer's sword presented to SK Pat Dexter - Past Faithful Navigator for his service to the Assembly. The other was a retired sword gifted to the Assembly by SK Gerald Saber and then presented by the Assembly to SK Harold Lopez. The names of the gifting Knight and the receiving Knight are bound together in service as brothers.

To be considered for one of these swords, a Sir Knight from the Assembly with the new uniform can submit his name, and the Trustees will review the requests and prioritize the distribution of swords that are gifted to the Assembly.
