After Mary Bush, the DFW National Cemetery coordinator for Wreaths Across America, spoke during the Patriotic Night open meeting of the Father Abram J. Ryan Assembly 1087 in Dallas on October 27, 2021, five Sir Knights from the Assembly volunteered to be section leaders for the wreath laying ceremony on December 18th at DFW National Cemetery, where over 48,000 wreaths were placed resulting in 100% coverage. The purpose of Wreaths Across America is to Remember (our fallen U.S. veterans), Honor (those who serve), and Teach (our children the value of freedom).Mary Bush became the DFW National Cemetery coordinator many years ago after placing a wreath on the grave of her son, U.S. Army Corporal Peter John Courcy, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2009, and noticed that only a few graves had wreaths. Now, her goal each year is to place a wreath on every grave at DFW National Cemetery, which proves challenging since DFW National Cemetery adds thousands of graves annually. The Sir Knights who served as section leaders were (left to right) SK Edward Arnold, SK Dan Chaney, PFN, SK Patrick Fletcher, PFN, SK Pat Conway, PFN and Immediate Former District Master of the Bishop Joseph Patrick Lynch Third Texas District, and SK James Hale, PFN.
