Father Joseph Plummer Council 10872

Father Joseph Plummer Council 10872, Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Community, in Spring continues to support Loving Choice Pregnancy Help Center. Loving Choice is the first and only Catholic pregnancy help center in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, and only the second one in Texas. The initiative to create the center began at the February 2019 Council 10872 Business Meeting and was developed in subsequent meetings of Knights and their spouses. The Holy Spirit has intricately guided every discussion and decision from day one.

The center has now been open for 26 months. It has the endorsement of the archdiocese. Loving Choice provides pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, instructional classes, referrals, as well as spiritual advocacy for its clients. The center ultrasound machine was obtained through the K of C Ultrasound Initiative with significant contributions from Council 10872, many other councils in the area, and from the Galveston-Houston K of C Chapter

Loving Choice’s current Executive Director, Will Rodriguez, is a FGK of Council 10872.Christ the Good Shepherd Pastor, Father James Burkart, a fourth degree member of our Council, is an ex-officio board member and the center’s spiritual director.

Loving Choice has received financial support from 12 councils. The center has volunteer advocates from eight parishes. The center now averages 55 client visits, performs 40 pregnancy tests, does 20 ultrasounds, teaches six classes, and provides numerous agency referrals per month. The ministry is influencing the hearts and minds of pregnant women so they may successfully carry their babies to term.
