Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025
Knights and families prepared for the Saturday Dec. 18th months in advance by collecting funds for the purchase of food for the event. The names of families in need were collected from community resources.Knights gathered heavyweight cardboard boxes to make up the “baskets”, as each one was of sizeable volume.
Knights and families joined in the prep work by meeting to build the boxes earlier in the week, then on an early cold and wet Saturday morning, met at the Columbus Club Hall at 6A, to fill the boxes for pickup and delivery.Breakfast tacos, doughnuts, and life-sustaining coffee were served to bolster the army of volunteers.
Even earlier that morning before dawn, Knights visited the local Walmart to make several trips to the hall with an enclosed trailer, delivering over 7000 pounds of food for the assembly line process of filling the baskets.
After which, a drive-up kiosk was erected in front of the hall for families to receive the baskets, while others with no transportation were served by teams of Knights delivering the goods with their own vehicles.
In all at least 66 people served 100 families in need, delivering 7000 pounds of food, and working a minimum of 366.5 volunteer hours.
This is a yearly event which our Council holds to help families in need.
