The knights of Council 10524 and sir knights of Assembly 2570 ended the year with the last in a series of very public demonstrations of Knights of Columbus committed to the sanctity of life. The public events started with the annual Chain of Life march at the Athens city square. This event was initiated a few years ago by Fr. Nolan Lowry, the pastor of St Edward Catholic Church in Athens. It is a joint venture of the local council and assembly with the sir knights providing all the logistical support and also leading prayers. Fr. Lowry is pictured below leading prayers on an Athens street corner with parishioners and knights and their spouses. Coinciding with the Chain of Life March, Council 10524 set up displays of crosses representing the number of babies previously aborted in Texas. These prominent displays were on the lawns of the historic St. Edward campus site and the St. Edward Education Ministry campus, both in Athens. The knights then sponsored Silver Rose services at both of the Athens campuses and led rosary services to end abortions before Sunday Masses. And the last event promoting prolife and dedication to our Lady of Guadalupe was the annual procession through Athens to the Cain Center where Bishop Strickland celebrated the Mass for the large crowd of devotees. Knights led the procession and participated in all aspects if the day’s services. Pictured below are pictures of those events.
