Muenster Knights Participate in Corpus Christi Procession

By Nicholas Taylor Financial Secretary Program Director Council 1459

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

Members of Knights of Columbus Council 1459 and Assembly 2720 participated in a Corpus Christi procession on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church to mark the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This marked the third year that the council and assembly participated in the procession.

Rev. Joseph Keating took over as pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster, Texas, in late 2019. He found that the parish did not have an annual Corpus Christi procession and desired to start the tradition in the parish. Rev. Keating turned to the Knights for help and funding to make the annual procession a reality. With the help of Council 1459, Sacred Heart Catholic Church conducted its first procession in 2020.

Council 1459 provided funds to purchase materials for a canopy to be carried in procession. Wives of council members stitched, embroidered, and sewed the canopy. As part of the annual procession, members of Council 1459 carry the canopy above the Blessed Sacrament and members of Assembly 2720 serve as an honor guard along the route.

The 2022 procession drew numerous participants including members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6205 who carried flags, first communicants, choir members, and many parishioners of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
