Del Norte Council 2592, the little council that could!

By Ray Aguilar, Texas Knight Reporter

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

Council 2592 from El Paso, Texas was awarded its first ever Triple Star Council Award for its accomplishments in Fraternal Year 2021-2022. Del Norte Council does not rest on its laurels. This Council supports 2 parishes and a Catholic School (K-12). At their parent Parish of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (Latta St.), the Augustinians of the Assumption established a Migrant Shelter. The Knights have made substantial contributions to their mission by donating manpower, clothing items, food, water and equipment. At Roger Bacon College, a Franciscan Mission, the council established a Round Table. The Round Table is very close to becoming a full-fledged Spanish council. The Round Table is actively supporting ministries, fundraising, and helping with church repairs. At Father Yermo Catholic School, one council member came out of retirement as an educator to help address its staffing shortages. The Council involves the students of Father Yermo in the Knights’ youth programs. It just completed its Essay Contest and is promoting the Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest. This council’s submission for last year’s essay contest won 1st place in the 12th grade category for Texas. Finally, this bilingual Council has a Spanish CUF Exemplification Team. Del Norte Council serves one of the poorest communities in El Paso. At only 100 members, this council donates over 5,800 hours and $12,000 to the community and its Faith in Action programs with a 30% participation rate from its Knights. Vivat Jesus!
