Father Joseph Plummer Council 10872

By Terry Keane Grand Knight, Texas Knight Reporter

Vol. 4, 2016-2017

On October 6th, Father Joseph Plummer Council 10872 of Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Community in Spring, Tx. was presented the State Charity Award for having met its State Charity goal for 20 consecutive years. The Award represents 20 years of consistent giving by the Council leadership. The Council was recognized by District Deputy, John Williams, for its generous and on-going support of Cardinal Daniel DiNardo’s Galveston-Houston Archdiocese Charity of Catholic Education.

Our Council recently hosted all the St. Mary’s Seminary Archdiocesan seminarians for barbeque at the St. Ignatius Parish rectory. Father James Burkart, Pastor of CGS; Father Norbert Maduzia, Pastor of St. Ignatius; Father David Michael Moses, Parochial Vicar of CGS; and Father Jose Kumblolickal, Parochial Vicar of St. Ignatius helped in welcoming the 25 seminarians. The seminarians were presented individual checks totaling $15,000. The money is the major portion of the proceeds from our Council’s 19th annual Bishop Cahill Golf Classic, held this past May. God gave us excellent weather for the outside BBQ event. A very relaxing and enjoyable evening was had by all.

The Silver Rose was with our Council on October 24. Father David Michael was our spiritual leader for the rosary service which was held at the outdoor Marian Shrine on the Christ the Good Shepherd campus.

Our Council continues to host taco breakfasts nine times per year. The two most recent breakfasts funded annuities for Father James and Father David Michael. The delicious tacos are prepared in the newly refurbished CGS social hall kitchen. Our Council contributed $20,000 towards the upgrades to the kitchen.

Our newest offering to our parish community is Friday Family Fun night. The evening includes games for all ages, pizza from a parishioner enterprise, and a choice of premium draft beers. The first two have been very successful.

Council 10872 continues to be a vibrant contributor to our parish and community.
