Five Knights from Council # 6978 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception in
Lampasas, Texas proved that this saying is true. One of them had the
last-minute idea to build a barrel train for a fun children’s activity
to enjoy during the parish’s annual Fall Festival, which was held on 23
October 2022. Even though it was not something the Knights had planned
together, it only took one short call for help for four Knights to jump
right in. It was a big undertaking with only three days to get it done.
Five of them were cutting metal, sanding, assembling, welding, painting,
and putting the finishing touches on. It was inspiring to see them
combining their unique talents to bring this idea to completion. They
worked, correction – they had fun until the wee hours of the morning,
and they got it done. The children enjoyed it very much – the little
train rolled fully loaded for four to five hours uninterrupted and the
adults complimented the design and safety features that were
incorporated.
