Our council has provided financial support to “ In My Shoes” over the last few years, this year they ask for even more of a commitment. Their home, which houses homeless pregnant women before the birth of their child and then up to nine months after delivery, needed some repairs. The ceiling tiles were broken, stained from previous leaks and in some places missing as well as the ceiling lights were old incandescent fixtures that did not provide adequate lighting. We agreed to take on this project but while we were getting organized their HVAC system quit and the company they hired to replace the unit and duct work removed large sections of the support grid. That turned what was a simple job into a lot more tedious and labor intense. We replaced the missing grid and supported and repaired the remaining structure. In order to get the new and old to match we painted the entire grid system.
We then rewired and replaced the lights on the second floor with dimmable LED recessed lights. The pallets of ceiling tiles were delivered, and we cut, trimmed and dropped them into place giving the residence a clean, bright fresh-looking place to call home. Although what started out to be a one day project grew into a three day ‘s there was never any doubt this was something that needed to be done, we were called and we answered.
