So

The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

It’s at the local level—right here—where interested volunteers meet the athletes. That’s where the perceptions start to change and where the miracle of transformation takes place.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

Special Olympics have been changing lives and attitudes since 1968.The Knights of Columbus have been in the vanguard of this global movement as an early supporter. Councils from all over the Metroplex provide volunteers to assist in implementing these annual activities for special athletes.

Council 7850 provided volunteers for this event on during November 7-11 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and on November 12 from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM at Bowlero Addison. The event resumed during November 14-16 at USA Bowl Dallas from 10:00 to 2:00.As a volunteer this year, this author came away with many observations of those participating in the various track and field events. All displayed the enthusiasm and sportsmanship in excess of the burdens from life’s crosses that they bear. Upon receipt of their individual awards, all congratulated each other with dignity as teammates winning a championship trophy.
