St Luke’s Council 10240, San Antonio hosted a Mass for People with Special Needs on Sunday, January 29th at 10 am. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Gary Janak and St. Luke Pastor, Father Joel Quezada. Sign language was provided by Emily Arriaga of Alamo City Interpreters, LLC and really elevated the experience of those present and viewers online. Special guests included philanthropists Gordon and Maggie Hartman and daughter Morgan from Morgan’s Wonderland. Bishop Gary repeatedly honored those with special needs and their caregivers. His inspiring sermon focused on the gift of life and how we are all equal and valued in God’s eyes. The special needs attendees came from all over the city and were spread throughout the congregation. Bishop Gary also made it a point to thank the Knights of Columbus for helping those in need. He mentioned the wheelchair program and other charity works that the Knights are involved in. We received compliments from several parishioners following the Mass, including one from the 21-year-old nephew of WDGK, Felipe Jimenez. His nephew, who has Down Syndrome, told him afterwards that “he was proud today.” Special thanks to SK Joe Torres and David Beales for arranging this Special Mass.
