The Knights of Columbus council (#11865) at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Whitehouse, Tx. sponsored the 2nd Annual KofC Citizenship Essay Contest for students in grades 8-12. The theme this year was: Explain how young Catholics can evangelize our faith to families and friends who have turned away from religion and encourage them to return to the Church and embrace the sacraments.
The winners of the Essay Contest from Prince of Peace at each level of the competition were:
- Meredith Howell – 12th grade Girls - 1st place Council award, 1st place District award, 3rd place State KofC award
- Christian Howell – 11th grade Boys – 1st place Council award, 1st place District award, 1st place State KofC award
- Madeline Howell – 10th grade Girls –
1st place Council award, 1st place District award, 1st place State KofC
award and 1st place International Award for 10th grade girls
- Natalie Howell – 8th grade Girls –
1st place Council award, 1st place District award, 2nd place State KofC award
At the end of Sunday morning mass on May 21st, Fr. Luke
presented all four (4) young adults their State KofC awards for the
Essay Contest (see group photo). Since Madeline Howell won the Girls
10th grade International essay award, she read her essay to all
parishioners at Mass that morning (see photos).
We are so proud of our young parishioners for their willingness to
express their thoughts about their spiritual journey and how they can
help others to find Christ.
