OLMC 6413 50th ANNIVERSARY

In early 1973, 23 men gathered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish to establish the Knights of Columbus Council. These grandfathers, fathers, neighbors, and friends came to be known as San Patricio Council #6413 and welcomed men from other parishes to join them. Through the years, their commitment to serving their parish and community grew stronger. On February 18, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus Council celebrated their 50 ^th anniversary. The Knights had the honor of welcoming Knights of Columbus Texas State Secretary Ron Alonzo and his wife Margo to their special celebration.

“Our council has been very blessed that we have always had the support and guidance of all the priests that have been here at OLMC,” said Anniversary Chairman Humberto “Beto” Martinez.

The Knights of Columbus were founded in 1882 by Blessed Father Michael J. Mcgivney. The order was established to assist the widows and children of Catholic men who lost their lives and left their families without any means of support.

Today, the Knights continue that work, which is guided by the four core principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. The Knights stand for the sanctity of human life in all stages, for faithful marriages and joyful families, for decency and purity, for justice and compassion, and for the downtrodden and those who suffer.

At OLMC parish, the Knights were instrumental in providing the monument for the unborn, yearly scholarships for one of the parish’s graduating seniors, supporting their youth so that they were able to travel to Steubenville for the youth conference, and for many more acts of charity. The Knights have also become widely known for their delicious barbeque chicken and sausage fundraiser which they do every month.

This golden anniversary is a truly special moment worth celebrating. Vivat Jesus!
