13th Annual Golf Tournament

Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025

Golfers and wannabes. What a beautiful day for golf. We were truly blessed again this year. The day started with temperatures in the upper 60s for the 7:30 am 1st tee time and topped off around the upper 80s under clear skies.

This year’s tournament was held at The Courses at Watters Creek in Plano on Thursday, May 18th. The course staff were wonderful to work with and they supported us with everything.

The tournament was a best ball scramble and included 32 teams of four, or 128 players. The final scores ranged from 53 to 75, with the median score of 64. We were able to award a 1st and 2nd prize to the top tier teams (top 16 teams), a 1st and 2nd prize to the second-tier teams (bottom 16 teams) and, a prize to the last place team. In addition, every player drew for and was awarded a door prize at registration and we awarded numerous prizes for contests on more than half of the 18 holes. We raised about $6,000 this year to support several charities including our primary charity, the American Wheelchair Mission. Plus, we raised $4,000 that will go directly to the building fund.

We, again this year, combined the tournament with an opportunity for parishioners to participate by donating to the Family Hole Sponsorship program that included a special drawing to be held at our June 12th meeting. The 2 prizes for this drawing include 1) participating in the new church Ribbon Cutting ceremony, and 2) a $400 gift card for Bob’s Steak and Chop House.

There were some great contest holes again this year, including a $10,000 hole-in-one. We didn’t have a hole-in-one winner this year but Bob Case’s tee shot rolled to within 8” of the hole, barely missing the $10,000 prize. Better luck next year!

This goes without saying but I’m going to say it anyway. We can’t host an event like this without a lot of help and volunteers. There were 5 committee members who worked, starting in December to plan the event, twenty-five plus volunteers working both before and during the event, and another thirty-one or so who donated or solicited wine, alcohol, gift cards and prizes to make this event a success.

Every year we hear from the players that we host one of the best golf tournament events they have played in, a compliment to all our Brother Knights.
