Miguel Castillo Jr., age 82, of McAllen, Texas passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

Miguel Castillo Jr. went home to be with his lord and savior surrounded by his family. Mike as he was known, was born on May 12, 1941 in Mercedes as the only child to Miguel & Margarita Castillo, both deceased.

Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Trinidad Hernandez Castillo, his two children whom he loved dearly. Doctor Miguel Castillo III, with wife Aracely, daughters, Kiyana Castillo, Monique Luna, his son Miguel Castillo IV.

Criselda Castillo Brower, husband Joseph Brower, (deceased) sons Joseph Brower, Brandon Brower, Brittany Bower, Paige Brower, & Drew Brower and his ex-daughter in law Illiana S Mata, mother of his only granddaughter.

He also survived by his brothers in law Agustin Hernandez & family, Manual Hernandez & family, Modesto Hernandez & family, Evaqelina H. De Leon, & his many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

He was a graduate of Mercedes High School, Bachelor of Arts from Pan Am University, Master of Education from Juarez Lincoln University in Austin, & mid management certificate from A&M University in Kingsville, TX.

He was a Retired ISD Educator Supervisor of the Mercedes Neighborhood youth corps 11 year classroom teacher, 6 years Migrant Education, 5 years high school teacher, 1 yea Mercedes Junior High School Assistant Principal, 4 years as Mercedes Junior High School Principal, 16 years Mercedes ISD School Administrator.

Outstanding young men of America listed in who is who in Texas Education. Recipient of the Prestigious Knights of Columbus Spirit Award. Recipient of the Knights Man of the Year aware of Mercedes council. In the Knights of Columbus he was District Deputy Star award recipient, lifetime recipient for chamber of commerce, was past president for the Texas municipal league, and was past regional Director from Region 12 with the Texas municipal league board of directors. He served the city of Mercedes as city commissioner for 3 terms, was Mayor for the City of Mercedes for 3 terms, total of 9 years.

Member of our Lady of Mercy where he served as Lector & Eucharistic Mister of the Cup and the Knights of Columbus 4554 and Father Edward J. Kennedy, 4th Degree. Mercedes Jaycees Chapter. Knight of Columbus Texas State Council where he served as membership committeeman, District Deputy, Fund raising Director, Diocesan Deputy, member of the Texas State Council, Education Committee, and member of Texas Attorney General Municipal Advisory Committee.

Boy Scouts of America, president of the Mercedes Education Association. Mercedes Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Mercedes Planning & Zoning Commission, Director of the Boys Scouts of America, Board member of the Knapp Medical Center Management Board. Director in the HELO (Hispanic Elected Local Officials) Board of the National League of cities, member & president of Retired Teacher.

Miguel was known for his smile, always shaking hands. Everybody was his friend. He will be greatly missed by all who love him.

Honored to serve as his pallbearers will be Augustin Hernandez Jr., Manual Hernandez Jr., Victor Hernandez, Marcos Hernandez, Carlos DeLeon Jr., Joseph Brower. Honorary Pallbearers are Joseph & Brandon Brower, and Miguel Castillo IV.
